CommentsPaul Freeman reports that the wildflower bloom is very good at lower elevations, especially between Dalles Mountain Road and Highway 14. Currently blooming: Balsamroot (Balsamorhiza sagittata) and (Balsamorhiza careyana), Ball-head Waterleaf (Hydrophyllum capitatum var. thompsonii), Panicled Death-camas (Toxicoscordien paniculatus), Columbia Gorge Lupine (Lupinus latifolius var. thompsonianus), Big-head Clover (Trifolium macrocephalum), Barestem Desert Parsley (Lomatium nudicale), Nine-leaf Parsley (Lomatium triternatum), Showy Phlox (Phlox speciosa), Big-seed Lomatium (Lomatium macrocarpum), Rigid Fiddleneck (Amsinckia retrorsa), Daggerpod (Phoenicaulis cheiranthoides), Spreading phlox (Phlox diffusa), Wooly-pod Milkvetch (Astragalus purshii), Harsh Paintbrush (Castilleja hispida), Wild cucumber/manroot (Marah oreganus), and others.
