| Comments | Horned Lark Trail: First off, it’s probably a pretty good idea not to climb the fence at the trailhead where there is a square wood bin filled with rocks (fence support). I began to climb it to find out there was a rattlesnake just a couple of feet away. Instead, I squeezed through the barbed wire elsewhere.
Slender cinquefoil (Potentilla gracilis) in full bloom all over. Also, western gromwell (Lithospermum ruderale), whitestem frasera (Frasera albicaulis), large-flower brodiaea (Triteleia grandiflora var. grandiflora), prairie smoke (Geum trilflorum), locoweed (Astragalus sp.), hoary balsamroot (Balsamorhiza incana), desert-parsley (Lomatium sp.), phlox (Phlox spp.), paintbrush/owl clover (Castilleja spp.), Blue Mountain onion (Allium fibrillum), and silky lupine (Lupinus sericeus). Wildrye Trail: In bloom: whitestem frasera (Frasera albicaulis), Blue Mountain onion ( Allium fibrillum), prairie smoke (Geum trilflorum), paintbrush/owl clover (Castilleja spp.), sticky purple geranium (Geranium viscosissimum), penstemon (Penstemon sp.), slender cinquefoil (Potentilla gracilis), buckwheat (Eriogonum spp.), fleabane (Erigeron sp.), and an Elkhorn’s clarkia (Clarkia pulchella). Haskin Butte Scramble: Prairie smoke (Geum trilflorum), larkspur (Delphiniumsp.), desert-parsley (Lomatium spp.), whitestem frasera (Frasera albicaulis), groundsel (Senecio sp.), paintbrush/owl clover (Castilleja spp.), prairie star (Lithophragma glabrum), penstemon (Penstemon sp.), lupine (Lupinus sp.), arrowleaf balsamroot (Balsamorhiza sagittata), locoweed (Astragalus sp.), and hoary balsamroot (Balsamorhiza incana). |
