We hiked from Bald Mountain trailhead to Bald Mountain, then continued on to the area south of the Timberline Trail segment that climbs to Cairn Basin. In the woods going to Bald Mountain there were lots of Bunchberry & some Star Flower. On the slopes of Bald Mountain there were lots of two different buckwheats (white & yellow) and a purple penstemon. On the trail to Cathedral Ridge there was an elegant, Asiatic-looking lilly (Columbia?), lots of lupine, lots of paintbrush, a little Beargrass, pasqueflower, and purple aster. Also some snow to walk through, but no place to get lost. In the area south of the Timberline Trail climbing to Cairn Basin there was a profusion of flowers, including lots of lupine and pink heather. Big snow fields beginning around 5800 feet.
