From Prineville, head north on Highway 26 for approximately 12.8 miles. Turn left onto Forest Road 7960 (Lone Pine Road). Follow that for approximately 0.25 miles. Turn right onto Forest Road 57 and follow it for approximately 3.3 miles. The Gray Butte Trailhead is on the left side (south) of the road across from the apple orchard at the old McCoin homestead. The orchard is ringed with poplar trees.
